Lemon verbena is a perennial bush growing to 1 – 2.5 m high.
The light green leaves are briefly stemmed, elliptic-lanceolate shaped, approximately 2 x 5 cm large; usually leaves are fixed in whorls of three at the four-edged stalk (hence the name triphylla). Leaves are slightly toothed and rough on the top as well as on the underside.
